The French European School of Podgorica is an independent organization under local law with the status of a private educational center. This is a Montenegrin status specific to organizations related to education. 

The founder of this educational center is an NGO, created in 2018, at the initiative of the French Embassy:

  “Friends of the French European School of Podgorica”.

The NGO is run by staff members and has as honorary members the French Ambassador and Prince Nikola Petrovic.

The educational center, recognized by the Montenegrin Ministry of Education, validating the programs taught, holds a Montenegrin license, for classes from kindergarten to middle school since 2018. 

The school has also been approved by the French Ministry of Education, for nursery and primary classes, since September 2023.  

The operation of the establishment is based on the statutes of the educational center and the NGO, both of which are subject to local law.

Management bodies

General Assembly of the NGO: It meets at least twice a year.
Educational Center Management Committee: It meets regularly throughout the year, in close partnership with management, and is responsible for the management of the establishment, financial, legal, social and human resources monitoring. It is made up of two staff representatives, two parent representatives, a member representing the embassy, a member representing the NGO and two directors (non-voting seat).
The school and establishment council: It meets three times a year. It is made up of all the teachers, parent representatives, the management team and a member of the embassy. It is in charge of the organization of the establishment, the calendar, the internal regulations, projects, questions relating to hygiene and safety and all other questions relating to the life of the school.
